North Balwyn Probus Club…helping you enjoy Retirement!
Probus is an association of social clubs promoting fun, healthy ageing, fellowship, and friendship opportunities in your local community.
PROBUS is an association of active retirees who join together in clubs, the basic purpose of which is to provide regular opportunities for them to keep their minds active, expand their interests and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends. Membership is open to anyone of good character who has had some measure of responsibility or achievement in any field of worthy endeavour.
The name PROBUS comes from the words PROfessional and BUSiness, and is a Community Service Activity of Rotary clubs. From its inception, PROBUS offered wonderful social contacts, but unlike its Rotary sponsor is not involved in Service obligations – indeed fund-raising is expressly forbidden
Our Probus club gives people the opportunity to join together for a new lease of life. Probus members retire from full time work, not life. Our basic purpose is to advance intellectual and cultural interests among adult persons, to give regular opportunities to progress healthy minds and active bodies through social interaction and activities. Whilst we are a men’s only club we encourage and invite our partners to join our various Special Interest Groups such as Theatre & Movie Events, Dine Outs, Walking Groups, Social Outings & Day Trips.
Our club conducts Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) on topics ranging from Heritage/Genealogy, Computer, Investment, Photography/Travel, to Woodcraft as well as having Walking groups, Golf, Dine Out, Theatre & Travel outings. For further information please contact one of our conveners listed on the Activities page.
Our monthly general meetings are held at the Greythorn Community Hub Corner of Centre Way and Trentwood Avenue Balwyn North, Melways map 46 ref H2 venue map except for the months of January & December, they commence at 10am sharp and conclude at 12 noon. The meetings commence with the President’s report followed by general business which includes reports from the various SIG conveners, Question and answer session concludes the general business. Morning tea is then served which provides an opportunity to socialize with fellow Probian’s. After our morning tea break a Guest speaker presents an interesting and probing talk on a variety of interesting topics.
Our membership is now approximately sixty (60) members, and we are always looking to foster & encourage new members to our Club.
With our Club you can participate as much or as little as you want, and we’re always pleased to see you!
